Planning a painting project

Looking to give your house a new coat of paint.  Here is our experts guide on how to plan and implement your painting project to get maximise your results

Choosing your color

Color may be the most important choice you make in your project so it is important to get right.  When considering your colors it is important to consider the amount of light available in a room as well as it size.  Lighter colors will open a room and are great choice for smaller rooms as well as rooms with low levels of natural light.  Darker colors can add a real warmth and depth to a room.  Consider using a darker color on a single wall to add some interest to a room without making the room feel to small.

Test it first

So you have selected your perfect color scheme and are ready to get your project moving.  Hold that thought...  What looks great on a sample from a paint store may not translate into a larger surface.  The best avice here is to purchase a sample pot.  If you are worried about painting yur existing walls then get some large white carboard and apply the paint to that.  This way you can move the carboard around the room to make sure it will work in all light conditions.

Choose the right paint

Not all paints are created equally.  It is important to choose a quality paint to get a lasting finish.  It may be tempting to opt for a cheaper paint but the short term saving will be negated by cost of frequent repainting.  Quality paints are more expensive because they have better quality ingredients that will look better and last longer.

DIY or professional

Many people enjoy the process of transforming their own space and relish the opportunity to pick up a paint roller, but nothing beats the finish, ease, and timeframe offered by a professional tradesperson.  When considering a painting professional make sure that they use only quality products and have the required experience to give you the results that you deserve.
