How to clean your walls

So your beautifully painted walls have been attacked by a tribe of over stimulated children, or maybe the family pooch is to blame?  Never fear, we have the solution to get those walls looking spotless again.

Matte & flat finish surfaces

Matte and flat paint is typically the least durable, and easiest to stain.  When cleaning walls with this type of paint never use and harsh chemicals or cleaners.  We recommend using only warm soapy water.  For more stuborn stains then a diluted mix of vinegar and baking soda can do the trick.  Make sure that you do not scrub too hard as excessive scrubbing will scuff the finish.  Patience and tact are required for more difficult stains.

Satin & Gloss finish surfaces

Satin and gloss finish surfaces are more durable so you may use a mild cleaner if you wish.  Always spot test in an inconspicuous place before attacking the stain to make sure the cleaner you have chosen does not damage the surface.  Satin and gloss finishes are by their nature shiny and can be easily scratched.  Always use a soft cloth such as a micro-fibre cloth to ensure that the surface is not scuffed or scratched.

Tips for a successful clean

Follow these tips and you wont go wrong:

  • begin by wiping away any solids with a damp cloth
  • rinse your cloth often with clean water
  • use a gentle circlar motion with consistent pressure
  • where possible always wash an entire wall, as washing one section may leave a visible area
  • start at the bottom of a wall and work your way up to avoid dirty drip marks

Good luck with your mission, and if your walls have seen there best days then please contact our team at any time to discuss a fresh coat of paint.
